Interview: Exploring WP3 with Frédéric Lange

How do you test an imaging system before you even have the data?

You simulate physics.

That’s one of the things Frédéric Lange and his colleagues at University College London are working on in WP3 of the fastMOT project.

They use Monte Carlo simulations to model how light travels through tissue, add realistic instrument parameters and noise, and then use the simulated data to test different approaches to data analysis.

Right now, they’re tackling a crucial question: How can time-gating increase measurement depth while preserving high signal quality?

With the physical instrument currently under construction in Italy, the WP3 team is working on the tools and analysis pipeline that will be needed once the first measurements come in.

In our latest fastMOT interview, Fred explains how this works and what the team is trying to achieve.
